Ross on Wye 5 - Dursley 22

After a narrow one point defeat last week at Cheltenham Ross were looking to get back into winning ways last Saturday against Dursley, with conditions perfect for running rugby Ross found Dursley too organised and direct and were defeated 22-5.Ross had two late withdrawels in the pack due to injuries and this disruption allowed Dursley to take the advantage early on,dominating at scrum time and as a result spending too much time in the Ross twenty two, initially the Ross defence held firm but eventually the pressure told and Dursley scored wide out on the left, with a successful conversion Dursley were 7-0 ahead after 15 minutes,Ross responded positively with some strong running from Dave Mince and Adam Clements, that established territory in the Dursley twenty two,and scrum half Huw Bellamy nearly went over but was tackled into touch 5 yards from the line, from the ensuing lineout it looked as if Dursley had weathered the storm, but a long clearing kick found Ali Hunter Blair in space on the half way line,he ran infield cutting through the first line of defence before delivering a well timed pass to fellow winger Casey Morgan who outpaced the fullback to score in the corner and Ross were back in the game 7-5 down, with half time beckoning both sides looked dangerous when they had the ball, however it was Dursley who were able to transfer this into points with a late first half try that took them into the break 14-5 to the good.

An early score for Ross would have brought them right back into the game, and with forwards Gavin Oates and Chris Price making good ground with ball in hand, the Ross backs were able to get some good front foot ball, both Gareth Holdsworth and Casey Morgan made a number of half breaks but the Dursley scramble defence was good enough to snuff out the threat and with their first foray into the Ross half after the break the Dursley centre cut through the midfield defence to score and effectively put the game safe,a late Dursley penalty gave them a comfotartable 22-5 lead,Ross did rally late in the game but the Dursley defence held firm and they ran out comfortable 22-5 winners.

The Eagle inn Ross on wye man of the match was Jack Evans for his try and strong defence.
