Ross on Wye 15 Kingswood 12

Every league game from now to the end of the season will be a cup final for Ross, last Saturday, anchored at the foot of the table some 12 points from safety things looked bleak ,however by the end of the day there was cause for optimism, all their relegation rivals lost, with Bream receiving a 5 point penalty for not playing Dursley last Saturday, and a hard fought 15-12 win at home to Kingswood moved Ross off the bottom of the table and only 7 points from safety with a game in hand over both Ashley Down and Bream, sides they still have to play before the end of the campaign. An early Casey Morgan penalty seemed to settle the home teams nerves, and even though they were under pressure at scrum time Ross were the first to cross the whitewash with a captains try from Gavin Oates, with Tim Hanks and then Adam Clements gaining territory with ball in hand scrum half Huw Bellamy moved the ball quickly into midfield, the Kingswood defence was up quick so centre Chay Brine chipped the ball over the defensive line and had the speed to gather his own kick,he offloaded to Gavin Oates who coasted over to score under the posts ,once again Casey added the conversion and Ross were 10-0 ahead. With a strong set piece the visitors were able to fight their way back into the game, their number eight made inroads off the base of the scrum and with half time looming Kingswood scrored a crucial try to go in at half time only 10-7 down.

The third quarter was a tense affair as Ross looked to defend their lead, this was hindered as both Tim Hanks and Jake Christopher had to go off injured with more than half an hour to go,however both replacements Mike Davies and Jack Evans played their part in getting Ross over the finish line,by this time the Ross tight five had more than solidified the scrum and Kingswood were finding it difficult to launch their big runners off a retreating scrum,Ross seemed to grow in confidence with centres Dan Field and Chay Brine linking well together the crucial score finally came, again som strong running from the forwards set up quick ball once again Dan and Chay linked brilliantly and this time Chay outpaced the cover defence to score in the corner,Ross were now 15-7 ahead and even a late Kingswood score could not deny Ross a well earned 15-12 victory.

The Terry’s Digitals man of the match was Chay Brine for a great attacking performance.

Next Saturday 25th Feb,Ross are back in leage action away to Hucclecote.
