Glos Division 1

Ross on Wye 7 Newent 21

Ross were full of hard work and endeavour last Saturday but in the end they were undone by a better organised Newent outfit who pulled away midway through the second half to register a hard worked win.Although Newent started the strongest it was Ross that opened the scoring, after a secure scrum just outside their own twenty two, srcum half fCraig Powell fed Chay Brine who delicately chipped over the oncoming Newent defence,a kind bounce saw centre Gareth Holdsworth collect the Ball he raced into the Newent half drawing the Newent fullback before timing a great try scoring pass to Chay Brine who glided under the posts to score,Casey Morgan converted and Ross were 7-0 ahead. The rest of the half belonged to Newent who dominated territory expertly delivered by their outside half who kept them playing deep in the Ross half, there was some great defending by Gavin Oates and Jack Evans, however although they kept their try line in tact,Newent where able to convert three penalties and went in at half time 9-7 ahead.

Ross were far more physical in the second half especially in the loose, where Adam Clements,Gavin Oates and Jack Evans repeatedly got them over the gainline, however the combination of an strong Newent defence and poor decision making meant Ross could not get that score that would give them the lead,as the game entered the final quarter it was Newent who struck with their first try, from a Newent penalty ,the away team set up a driving lineout in the Ross twenty two initially  some great tackling from Casey Morgan and Jake Christopher repelled the drive however from a ruck twenty yards out they broke right and their scrum half created space for their winger to score, they converted and were 16-7 ahead, once again Ross threw everything at the visitors but where unable to develop enough phases to find that elusive defensive gap and with the game slipping away from Ross ,the Newent outside half scored wide out on the left to give Newent a 21-7 victory.

The Terrys Digitals Man of the Match was Captain Gavin Oates for a great display in defence.

Ross are next in league action on Sat 3rd Dec away to Painswick.
