U16โ€™s RESULTS25/2/24 - Ross On Wye, Luctonians and Worcester Round Robin.Just when it felt like the weather had once again put a dampener on the weekend, our very own Mary Poppins, Sarah, dipped into her carpet bag of tricks(no really ask her ๐Ÿ˜‰) , and magicked up not 1 but 2 games! Due to illness, location or just teenage angstโ€ฆwe travelled with a smaller and in some areas untested squad to play these two behemoth clubs. Game 1: Worcester. After dismantling a development Lucs side, Worcester set about Ross in similar fashion initially scoring a try within 5 minutes, which was converted. 7-0. Ross then found their stride, working to some of the principles and structures learnt in training. Ross took the game back to the strong Worcester team, quick phases and a fantastic kick chase from a couple of players saw a mistake in the Worcester defence, allowing the Predator โ€˜Kenzieโ€™ to pounce, not even Arnie would stop him in that mood! 7-5. The game became a right slugfest, big tackles and strong carries from both teamsโ€ฆWorcester edging it and scoring next 12-5. Not disheartened the thread bare Ross troops dug inโ€ฆand found themselves camped on the Worcester trylineโ€ฆbut succumbed to that deadly teenage traitโ€ฆWhiteline Fever! With better pitch and game awareness Ross could have seen and attacked the space to close the gapโ€ฆbut like a British Summerโ€ฆthe moment promised so much but ultimately passed and ended anticlimactically โ˜”๏ธโ€ฆwith Worcs turning over possession and scoring at the end 19-5. Game 2: Luctonians. This game was a great tussle, Lucs to be fair brought along a mixed development team which was a close match to Ross. Played in fantastic spirit, started off with Ross applauding their counterparts who had shaved their heads to raise money for charity in aid of one of their ownโ€ฆNice one Lucs ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ช and good luck young man, our hopes and wishes are with you. Now in the interest of transparency (tell I donโ€™t work in politics), I must admit Ross did borrow a couple of players from Worcs who only brought out the best in Ross, thanks lads, especially Arch who played both games. Lucs started the stronger scoring a deserved try 5-0. Again as is the pattern with Ross, they go behind to wake up. After repelling the early Lucs barrage, with great tackling and fierce pride, Ross turned the tide. With nice hands and constant pressure of their own, Ross ran in a try from a tap and go penalty. Harry M added the extras 5-7. Ross seized the moment, learning from errors in Worcs game, they sucked in the opposition, then spread play and Luca (AKA Shane Williams) scorched clear to score 5-12. The game was on a knife edgeโ€ฆthose parents who werenโ€™t chewing their knuckles, as nails were long gone, were positively bellowing their supportโ€ฆCome On Ross, could be heard gently floating across the M5 ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Lucs huffed and puffed, but Rossโ€™ brave little piggies were not to be denied, as they held out for the win.The camaraderie shown by Ross, Worcs and Lucs was a joy to behold. All on show are a credit to their loved ones. The Ross coaches wish to thank both of the opposition teams, the supporters and most of all their own playersโ€ฆall 18 of you, who old and new (a debutant amongst them) stood their ground, rolled up their sleeves and grafted together! Thanks boys ๐Ÿซถ.In the words of the great basketball coach Phil Jackson:โ€œThe strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.โ€Thanks to Sponsors:-Hanksโ€™ Meat & GameHsl Compliance LtdAqua Heat Ross on WyeRoss Health & Physio MattersHowdens Ross on WyeABT ... See MoreSee Less
