Ross 2nds 45 – 26 Tewkesbury 2nds

Ross entertained league leaders Tewkesbury on Saturday and came away with a hard fought 45-26 victory. Ross were made to work from the off and for the first 10 mins hardly touching the ball with Tewkesbury keeping possession superbly and despite some great defence from Ross, Tewkesbury went over in the corner to score an unconverted try.
Midway through the half, Ross started to see more of the ball and when Tewkesbury eased the pressure with a kick up field, it fell to Ross full-back Tom Muldowney who found center Peter Jarvis and he linked well with his centre partner Rich Daws and Jarvis followed the passage of play to go in under the posts for Milner to convert.
Soon after the re-start Ross went further ahead when a dominant scrum which was picked up by No 8 TC Leach and his pass to Milner was fed through to Jarvis to score under the sticks. Milner converted taking the score 15-5. Tewkesbury hit back on 30 mins with a converted try before Daws notched a try for Ross just before the break which Milner again converted.
The 2nd half saw a great start for Ross when Muldowney broke through the defence, chipped ahead and with the on-coming full-back closing him down and he gathered his kick just shy of the line but Jarvis was on hand to collect the off-load and go over for his hat-trick. Milner converted. Ross pulled further away when scrum-half Rhys Gunter took a quick tap penalty and prop Wayne Williams forced his way over in the corner and the conversion attempt was narrowly missed.
Tewkesbury were far from dead and buried and scored their 3rd try of the game, but Milner calmed any nerves when he slotted a penalty. Ross’ scrum was dominant and from a scrimmage on the 5 yard line, they pushed the Tewkesbury pack and some great foot control from substitute No 8 Dan Gould the pack forced themselves over the line and Williams had the simplest of try’s just dropping onto the ball.
There was no bad performance from the Ross squad but Pete Jarvis won the Escape man of the match for his hat-trick.
There is no fixture for Ross 2nds this week, but are away to Cheltenham Civil Service on the 2nd March.
