Cheltenham Civil Service 2nds 5 – 31 Ross 2nds
Ross travelled to Cheltenham Civil Service in the league and came away comfortable 5-31 winners despite a slow start.
Civil Service struggled to field a team and in fact Ross players Tom Muldowney, Russell Walker, TC Leach, Ian Davies and Ian Phillips all put the boots on to play for Civil Service to make it a more competitive encounter. This shows great squad numbers when 5 players played for the opposition.
Civil Service found themselves within meters of the Ross line and Phillips playing a scrum half for Civil Service found fellow Ross player TC leach and he unselfishly offloaded to the winger to score.
Ross responded immediately and Ross’ try scoring machine Joe Muldowney went over to level the scores. Joe scored again from a flowing backs move to take his tally to 19 tries for the season.
Ross’ superiority started to show in the second half and the forwards were more precise in clearing out, which allowed No 8 Dan Gould to pick and go over to score. Craig Powell converted.
Powell then scored a try of his own when he picked up from the back of the scrum and went over on the blindside. He picked himself up to slot over the extras.
Winger Sean Smith scored Ross’ try of the game when simple draw and pass back play put him away to score in the corner. Powell kicked the conversion from the touch line.
It was a solid performance from Ross who were a bit lethargic in the first period but stepped up the pace in the second.
The Drop Inn man of the match was Bas Parker playing in the centre. This week Ross 2nds are away to Old Richians 2nds in a friendly.
