Ross 2nds 22-19 Tenbury 2nds
Ross 2nds entertained Tenbury 2nds last Saturday and came away with the narrowest of wins 22-19 in a tough encounter in the drizzle and freezing conditions.
Ross were on top for the majority of the half with winger Skylar Lilly scoring early on. Tenbury hit back when they gathered a sliced Ross clearance to touch down and convert but for the rest of the half, it was all Ross.
The line outs and scrums were very much in favor of Ross who won all their own ball and many against the head thanks largely to the front row of Dave Lawrence, Sean Murphy and Luke Ward. This enabled Ross to have a solid platform from which to attack.
Scrum Half Rhys Gunter was linking well with fly-half Simon Gwynne and the later put flanker Joe Muldowney in under the posts for Gunter to convert. A carbon copy move saw Muldowney go over again but in the corner and the extras were narrowly missed.
Tenbury came back into the game late in the half with a converted try but on the stroke of the half 2nd row Ali Rees powered over to score putting Ross 22-12 up at the interval.
The 2nd half was a lot more scrappy with knock on’s and handling errors occurring in difficult conditions allowing Tenbury to ease pressure off themselves and start to gain more territory, which resulted in a delicate kick through from their No 10 to their winger to score. Ross were still looking the better side and should have scored more points, but in the end they hung onto a slim advantage in this friendly fixture.
Ross’ centre pairing of Bas Parker and TC Leach looked like scoring every time they had ball in hand with TC in particular looking more like his old self. Luke Ward was welcomed back into the team after a break away from the game and was awesome in the first half winning him the Drop Inn man of the match.
This week Ross 2nds are away to Berry Hill 2nds in another friendly fixture, 2.30 ko.
