Ross 2nds 39 – 7 Tewkesbury 2nds
In a top of table clash, Ross 2nds came out convincing winners at home to Tewkesbury 2nds, winning 39-7.
The first half saw a superb display from Ross in which they out scrummed, out jumped and out thought their opponents to race away to a 29-0 lead by half time.
Fly-half Huw Bellamy got Ross off the mark with a try in the corner which scrum-half Craig Powell converted. This was soon followed by a try from winger Ryan Keating which Powell narrowly missed with the extras. The Ross front row of Sean Murphy, Dave Lawrence and Ben Taylor-Davies bullied their opposite numbers for the entire game and Ross’ backline forwards of Adam Clement, Jake Christopher and Henry Tilling were always first to clear out rucks and secure the ball. Bellamy added his second try on 20mins after he helped chase down a Tom Muldowney kick through and turn over the ball on the Tewkesbury line. Powell just converted with the ball going between the sticks via one of the posts. Keating then scored his second with the try of the match when again the Ross forwards turned over the ball, successfully hit it up front a couple of times before simple but slick handling in the backs put Keating clear. Powell then scored a try of his own, picking the ball from the base of a ruck and darting over.
The second half saw more possession for Tewkesbury and it took some exuberant defending to keep them out. In particular from No 8 Adam Clement and centres Bas Parker and Pete Jarvis. Pressure eventually told and Tewkesbury scrambled over the line to score a converted try but Ross bounced back with two more tries from Clement and then Keating got his hatrick.
The Escape man of the match was Pete Jarvis who never missed a tackle all day. This week Ross 2nds are at home in league action against Dowty.
