Smiths Cheltenham 24  Ross on wye 33

Ross extended their unbeaten run in the league to seven wins on the bounce with an hard fought away win in Cheltenham running out 33-24 victors ,after nine leagues games Ross sit second in the table with eight wins and a solitary loss .Ross started poorly ,a number of errors saw the hosts deep in the Ross twenty two and with less than five minutes on the clock Smiths had scored under the posts and were 7-0 up,for the rest of the opening quarter Ross were unable to get their direct attacking game into gear ,fortunately their defence held firm and Smiths were unable to add to their seven point lead ,a Thai Hayward penalty after twenty five minutes saw Ross peg the hosts back to 7-3 ,and after what seemed an age Ross began to string some phases together and started to enjoy some possession in the Smiths half ,and with less than ten minutes to the break Ross took the lead ,a strong scrum on the hosts twenty two enabled scrum half Ben Element to move the ball quickly to fly half Thai ,he delivered a well timed pass to centre Dan Field who darted through the midfield defence like a knife through butter to score under the posts Thai added the two and Ross went into the break 10-7 ahead.Ross went back to basics after the break keeping hold of the ball and playing rugby in the Smiths half ,this immediately showed dividends as the penalty count grew Thai Hayward was able to add three penalties and stretch the Ross lead to 19-7 ,Smiths were not done yet though they hit back with a breakaway try from  a penalty on the half way and with twenty minutes left on the clock they were back only 19-14 behind ,at this stage it was anyones game ,who would hold their nerve and composure ? it was Ross who held their nerve ,they pinned Smiths back into their half with a combination of a good kicking game and retaining possession when they had the ball ,this combination was too much for a now tiring Smiths defence and scrum half Ben Elemnent was able to score two close range tries which were both converted by Thai Hayward to put Ross 33-14 clear ,a late Smiths try and penalty brought them within nine points but a great turnover from Josh Walker snuffed out one last Smiths attack and Ross were able to close the game out.Next Saturday Ross are back in league action at home against Bredon star a 2.30pm kick off at Greytree.
